WSIB Program Of Care

- Musculoskeletal (MSK) Program of Care: This evidence-based pathway is for injuries affecting muscles, joints, or bones, such as sprains, strains, and non-surgical fractures. The program includes education, manual therapy, and exercise to restore mobility and ensure a safe, graduated return to work.
- Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) Program of Care: This specialized program is for concussions and non-complex brain injuries. It focuses on managing symptoms like dizziness and headaches through vestibular rehabilitation and progressive exercise, helping individuals recover faster and return to daily activities.
Work Injury Q&A
Following the correct steps ensures your claim is processed quickly and your benefits start on time. Here is the 4-step process:
Get Medical Care: Your health is the first priority. See a doctor or physiotherapist immediately. Tell them your injury happened at work so they can complete Form 8 (the Health Professional’s Report) and send it to WSIB.
Report to Your Employer: Tell your supervisor or manager about the injury as soon as possible. Your employer is then required to send Form 7 (the Employer’s Report) to WSIB.
File Your Worker’s Report (Form 6): You need to complete your own report, called Form 6. You can do this online through the WSIB website. This form is your official “claim” for benefits and includes your consent to share your functional abilities with your employer to help you return to work safely.
Stay in Touch: Once your claim is started, WSIB will assign you a Claim Number. You will need it whenever you speak with WSIB or visit our clinic for treatment.
No, you should not wait. Early treatment is proven to lead to better recovery outcomes. WSIB has specific rules to help you get started right away:
For Muscle or Joint Injuries (MSK): If you have a injury like a sprain or strain, you can start the first four weeks of treatment immediately, even while your claim is still “pending” (not yet approved). WSIB encourages this “early access to care” so you don’t lose valuable recovery time.
For Concussions (mTBI): While the mTBI program generally requires an “allowed” claim to fully enroll, your first priority is still to book an assessment immediately. We can help you navigate the documentation needed to get your claim approved quickly.
No. If you have a workplace injury, WSIB pays for the specialized Programs of Care directly. There are no out-of-pocket costs for the assessment, the treatment sessions, or the reports we send to WSIB on your behalf.
MSK Program: Typically lasts up to 8 to 12 weeks, divided into blocks.
mTBI Program: Usually follows an 8-week structure but can be adjusted based on how your symptoms (like dizziness or headaches) are progressing. If you need more care after the program ends, we can request a “supplementary block” from WSIB.
WSIB prefers that you complete the program with the clinic where you started to ensure “continuity of care.” If you need to switch (for example, if you move), you must get approval from your WSIB Case Manager first.
