About City of Pickering

Pickering is a growing city in Durham Region, located directly east of Toronto. Covering about 231 km², it had a population of just under 100,000 in 2021 and is expected to grow significantly, reaching close to 180,000 in the next two decades.

Often called the eastern gateway to the GTA, Pickering benefits from a strategic location with easy access to major highways, GO Transit, and regional transportation routes, making it well-connected for residents and businesses. The city also has a well-educated and diverse workforce, with more than half of its residents holding post-secondary credentials.

Pickering is home to the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, one of Ontario’s key energy facilities. Operated by Ontario Power Generation, it originally housed eight CANDU reactors and continues to supply a meaningful share of the province’s electricity.
